Beaches and Proms

The natural beauty of the beaches was being noted in the late 1700s and gradually the Quay became a fashionable place to visit. The North Pier was completed in 1843 replacing an earlier timber construction and South Pier in 1848. 1866 saw the completion of the Sea Wall Parade, renamed the Royal Princes Parade in 1888 when the Beaconsfield Sea Wall was completed. The Princess Mary Promenade was opened in 1928.
